GYLA represented and protected the rights of a social worker illegally dismissed from the Social Service Agency on 31st January 2020, who is a member of the Social Workers' Union. On May 27, 2021, the Telavi District Court granted the social worker's demands in full - annulled his/her dismissal order, ordered the defendant to reinstate the social worker and reimbursement of the forced unpaid salary from the time of dismissal until the execution of the court judgment. The Judgment of Telavi District Court has not entered into force and the defendant can appeal it in a higher court.
As it is known to the public, after the reorganization of the Social Service Agency in early 2020, the rights and responsibilities of guardianship and custody were transferred to the LEPL – Agency of State Care and Assistance to the Victims of Human Trafficking. Under the changes, if necessary, the Care Agency should have ensured that staff and non-staff employees of the Social Services Agency are transferred to relevant positions on a non-competitive basis. Nevertheless, the social worker was dismissed without justification under the pretext of reorganization. GYLA continues to represent and defend the interests of other illegally dismissed social workers in court.
