Today, on April 17, Tbilisi City Court concluded the consideration of the case regarding the State liability while leading up to suicide. GYLA urges to impose liability to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA) and the Prosecutor General`s Office for failing to prevent systematic domestic voidance and female suicide. This case is the first in Georgia concerning the State’s obligation to prevent the facts of bringing women to suicide, as the preventive form of feminicide. Tbilisi City Court will announce the decision on May 2, 2019.
Prior to the fact of suicide, the woman had applied to the State organs 16 times due to domestic violence. GYLA accuses MIA and the Prosecutor’s Office of improper respond to these appeals, which has led to a tragic result - bringing to suicide.
This is the third case GYLA disputes with the state bodies on paying the compensation because of feminicide. The first two cases had been related to domestic violence resulted in remediated murder, that the state organs failed to prevent.
