On April 28, at 12:00 pm at the Radisson Hotel the Georgian Young Lawyers Association held presentation of results of the research conducted in frames of the project ‘Promotion of Accountability and Transparency in Georgia’. The research covered analysis of practice of common and constitutional courts with regard to freedom of information in 2008-2010. The analysis entitled Freedom of Information in Georgia – Basic Trends of Court Practice reflects the freedom of information standards elaborated by the judicial authority in Georgia.
The presentation was attended by representatives of public agencies, courts, civil society and media. At the presentation court practice with regard to interpretation of Chapter III of the General Administrative Code and trends in court rulings was discussed. At the end of the presentation, interesting discussion was held among the attendees concerning problems with regard to release of public information, court practice in terms of personal data, difficulties in processing of information, observing terms required by the General Administrative Code, burden of proof during freedom of information trials. The participants discussed results that have been achieved so far, existing problems and ways for solving the problems.
