On March 30, 2021, the City Council of Batumi Municipality planned to discuss the case of leasing the seaside sections of the Batumi coast by direct management.
There is a high public interest in the discussion of the case, but the public hearing could be not attended by many interested parties, which led to a public protest. Albert Arakelov, a civil activist, was one of those who protested against the restriction of the right to attend a public session, as well as the case to be discussed in the City Council, by hitting a wooden board with drumsticks.
During the protest, the police arrested him administratively and an administrative violation report was drawn up against him under the article of petty hooliganism. Batumi City Court has examined the case of Albert Arakelov today and ruled that no violation had taken place. Accordingly, the court terminated the case and released the arrested activist.
GYLA defended the interests of Albert Arakelov in court.
