We would like to respond to the ongoing discussion and uncertainty regarding the next National Security Council meeting. The President of Georgia on 15 October decided to convene the National Security Council for 28 October. The reason for convening the National Security Council was the treaty that the Russian Federation is planning to sign with the separatist government of Abkhazia. Later, on 17 October, the Parliament of Georgia adopted a statement that condemned Russian attempt to “annex the occupied Abkhazia”.

Non-governmental organizations express deep concern about the recent cases of the violation of the rights of Adjarian Muslims and about the repressive and ineffective governmental policy. GYLA starts a monitoring project, relating to the murders committed against women in 2014

Within the frames of the project, each case of murders against women will be examined; it will be analyzed whether the actions of the relevant state bodies was effective, timely and adequate for the protection of the violence victims (in cases when the victims have addressed those state bodies).

Statement of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association in relation to the Disturbing Scale of the Violence against Women

Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association condemns violence against women, which evolved into the disturbing scale and forms in the past months. Violence against women is a crime, which cannot have any cultural, religious or other justification. Today media has aired information on one more case of violence of the ex-husband against the woman, which resulted in the victim’s death.

Statement of NGOs on Alleged Political Persecution of Employees of Tbilisi City Hall

Once again, we would like to react to reports of political persecution of employees of Tbilisi City Hall. Individuals who allege persecution have informed us that they have been subject to systematic pressure since August 2014, in an attempt to force them into resigning for personal reasons. They have also reported that these illegal activities are perpetrated with the involvement of head of the department, his deputy and as well as unidentified individuals (presumably police officers).

Based on GYLA’s complaint the Constitutional Court recognized the unconstitutionality of the incapability model

On October 8, 2014, the Constitutional Court of Georgia has announced its decision in relation to the lawsuits, filed by GYLA in 2011 and 2012. The constitutional court has upheld GYLA’s requests under the lawsuit and declared unconstitutionality of the incapability model, prescribed under the Civil Code.

GYLA calls upon the law-enforcement bodies to investigate the alleged pressure, exerted against the Isani district deputy Gamgebeli

The deputy Gamgebeli of the Isani district of the Tbilisi city – Besik Donadze has addressed Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association for legal assistance. Besik Donadze stated that he is being pressured into quitting his position. Besik Donadze has already addressed the law-enforcement bodies in relation to this case and has submitted the evidences.
