According to media reports, the director of Adjara TV, Giorgi Kokhreidze demanded that Natia Zoidze step down from the editorial policy and he showed aggression towards other TV journalists.
GYLA considers that it is inadmissible to interfere with the editorial independence of a journalist, including from the side of the director.
We would like to remind the public that due to the recent developments and especially the decision of the Batumi City Court to suspend the competition for the broadcasting director, the television was facing a danger of changing its editorial policy.
At the same time, the civil society was calling for the election on the post of the Director of the Adjara TV Advisory Board with such a person, who would ensure the editorial independence of the journalists during his/her tenure. There are many questions existing regarding the election of the elected director - Giorgi Kokhreidze.
We urge the Director of Adjara TV to ensure the editorial independence of the staff of Adjara TV.
GYLA expresses its readiness to protect the rights of every journalist.
