“TEN YEARS AFTER THE AUGUST WAR: VICTIMS OF THE SITUATION IN GEORGIA”

On 17 July 2019, International Day of Justice, the member organizations of the Georgian Coalition for International Criminal Court will present a special report - "Ten Years After the August War: Victims of the Situation in Georgia".

The report covers the crimes committed against refugees from the Tskhinvali region / South Ossetia during the 2008 Russian-Georgian war, as well as the current socio-economic situation and their needs at the place of resettlement. The report also touches upon the investigation initiated by the International Criminal Court into the situation in Georgia in January 2016, the progress and challenges which the investigation faces today. The report also provides recommendations to relevant state institutions and respective bodies of the International Criminal Court.

For the purposes of the report, 2400 IDP families living in 36 IDP settlements throughout Georgia were interviewed.

The report aims at informing the public about the investigation regarding the situation in Georgia conducted by the International Criminal Court and the condition of victims ten years after the August 2008 war.

The event is held within the framework of the Open Society Georgia Foundation-funded project "Involvement of the Civil Sector in the Investigation of the Situation in Georgia Conducted by the International Criminal Court".
